A concert with a professional attitude rarely seen in Hungary, featuring all big hits and lasting two and a half hours: that’s the way to handle the tens of thousands of fans at Sziget Festival’Main Stage and that’s exactly what Prince did on Day 0 of the event – as also stated in the press release by the Hungarian National News Agency.

The American funk/soul/R&B icon entered Sziget Main Stage at 8PM, wearing a red velvet jacket, black polo neck sweater and also black pants, putting the final touch to his outfit with silver necklaces. The band has a female dominance with the guitarist, bass and keyboard player, plus the two backround vocalists representing the gentler sex, but manhood was also present with the drummer, the other keyboardist and the main guy himself.

The seven-time Grammy winner, 53-year-old star sang, played guitar and sometimes even the keyboard, mastering all of them with ease. The first 50 minutes of the show were all about the latest albums of Prince, strating with a 15 minutes long piece and featuring massive funk songs with great solo inserts. Prince was talking to the crowd, ‘Hungary’, as he called them and made them sing several times.

The first big hit was Musicology, followed by a medley with Take Me With U, Rspberry Beret, Cream and even presenting Michael Jackson’s Don’t Stop Till Get Enough. The sound was perfect, while the lights and the led wall images also added to the continuous sparkling of the stage – reported the Hungarian National News Agency.

After around 1 hour the lights went out and it seemed like it was the end of the show, but following a few minutes of scheduled silence Prince and the band returned with Purple Rain and another tune from the same classic ‘1984’ album, When Doves Cry, closely followed by Kiss…making the crowd more than happy. The third encore included Let’s Go Crazy and Nothing Compares 2 U (and it’s important to note that the latter was also written by Prince, but it became famous with Sinéad O’Connor back in the days).

In the end the gig became a giant stage party, as some lucky fans were allowed on stage to dance along with the undisputed prince of pop. And it was not just the fans who loved it, Prince was also seemingly over the moon. The parade was closely followed from VIP sector by well-known Hungarian artists and also international movie star Jeremy Irons, shooting his lates series, Borgias, in Budapest.
